In April of 2017 I was awarded a $3,000 Individual Artist Grant by the Central Minnesota Arts Board. This grant is funded by the McKnight Foundation of Minnesota.
This award has allowed me to purchase a used viola in very good condition. My objective is to use the viola to learn:
- More fluent reading of Alto Clef
- Learn string bowing techniques
- Learn specific string techniques used by all of the stringed Instruments
By doing so, I will be a more skilled composer and orchestrator. I have another chamber orchestra piece to compose this spring and summer. What I learn from having a viola will be very helpful.
Much of the remainder of the grant dollars were used to build this website. It was a custom design created for the unique needs of a composer who self-publishes music. Once it is completed it will be tremendously valuable as my compositions will be available for purchase and rental right on this website. The website also will help introduce my music to a wider audience of amateur, academic and professional musicians as well the general public. So a big “Thank you” to the Central Minnesota Arts Board the McKnight Foundation of Minnesota!
