Cloud Winds Trio

Al Asmus, Flutes, Richard Chandler, Bassoon, Tom Gaetz, Clarinet

Cloud Winds Woodwind Trio was formed in January 2018 by Tom Gaetz, (clarinet, bass clarinet, and soprano saxophone), Al Asmus, (flutes, saxophones, and bass clarinet), and me, (bassoon, saxophones, and recorders).

Al is the owner of Al Asmus Band Instrument Repair in St. Cloud and is well known as a jazz saxophonist. Tom and I have played duets over the years and are members of the Amadeus Chamber Symphony.

There are 4 organizing principles of Cloud Winds:

  1. To play interesting chamber music for a variety of audiences including traditional chamber music concerts, weddings and funerals, religious services and anywhere an audience might appreciate chamber music. This, of course, includes pubs!
  2. To play newly composed music from living composers including my own music
  3. To play on a large variety of instruments, mixing up all the different instruments we play for to create unique and varied sound colors
  4. To go up and down in the number of players so we may play solos, duets, trios and add other musicians to play wind quintets

We performed our first chamber music recital on Friday, May 4th, at the Unitarian/Universalist Fellowship (3226 Maine Prairie Rd. St. Cloud, MN) at 7:30 pm. We were joined by Richard Dirlam, saxophones and Doug Duea on Piano and our music was enthusiastically received by our wonderful audience members.

Best,  Richard Chandler
