Recent Performances

On October 15th, 2009, Dr. Edward Turley and Dr. Carolyn Finley performed my Five Evening Pieces For Piano. The first four, Evening Begins, Evening Walk, Waves Lapping and Prayer-like, were performed by Dr. Turley on Piano. The last piece, Sleep Now, featured the premier of a new version of the piece, which was newly written one step lower than the original, a new introduction and a more compelling part for the Piano’s right hand.

This new version, in G minor, can be performed as a ‘stand-alone’ lullaby, and need not be grouped with the other four Evening Pieces, or it is the preferred version to be performed when the pianist chooses to use a vocalist as part of the performance of the Five Evening Pieces for Piano. Should the pianist wish to play the vocal line on piano, rather than having it sung, the original version is the preferred one to use

The recital featured eight Minnesota composers, including me. Prior to the performance of each of our works, we introduced the piece on stage.  The large recital audience was enthusiastic about all of the compositions, and Dr. Finley, Dr. Turley and other musical guests were warmed by the standing ovation at the recital’s conclusion.
